2 weeks!

well i've been here for 2 weeks. i think i could get use to this easy life style. my tasks for today were to do beach patrol in the afternoon from 1:30pm until 5pm. it was pretty boring all by myself but the beach is small and i can sit near the entrance and inform everyone that enters not to walk at the back of the beach. if the greek gov't would just make a freakin sign or pictogram, i wouldn't have to be there. at 7:30pm myself and 2 other girls went to a hotel and gave a slide show about the loggerhead turtles and the dangers they face. we made 60 euros which is better than the sad 11.40 euros we made at the slide show last night.
yesterday morning was an adventure. i was on morning survey for the island of Marathonisis. on our way back our boat stalled and then we couldn't get it to get back into neutral to start the engine again. i figured it just needed a woman's touch but i couldn't fix it. ;P
we eventually just started up in forward and zoomed off at our 6 knot speed (very slow) don't want to hit any turtles! then when we were ready to be picked up we got the cell phone out and it's battery was dead. we were stranded about an hours walk from the campsite with a case of 30 litres of fuel. i volunteered to wait with our stuff since my foot is still sore and Julia from Germany stayed with me. Mark the leader and Jimena walked/ran back to the campsite to get a car to pick us up. we sat there for an hour. tons'o'fun i tell ya. especially when one is salty wet and looking forward to breakfast and a shower.
a bunch of us girls are going to get rooms in a hotel for a night and have a girls night out. we're all looking forward to a hot shower. did i mention we have cold showers? i can only bear taking showers in the afternoon. mornings and evenings are way too cold.
this morning one morning survey group found 2 sets of turtle tracks but no nests. any day now there will be nests and we will begin night surveys too. hopefully i'm going to be on the night surveys. they will for sure be the coolest tasks. watching and tagging nesting turtles.

nicole's a gimp

i was playing ping pong with May from Norway and i managed to slip and land on my foot awkwardly. i scrapped it up pretty bad and now i can barely walk on it. after two days of hobbling around the campsite and being unable to do most of my duties here i decided to go to a doctor. i've got a prescription for an anti-inflammatory and some sort of cream that the pharmacist says no longer exists. so i went back to the doctor and he said to try somewhere else for that cream. the pharmacist just snickered when i went back and told her this. since i don't feel like doing the one footed bike ride any further then i have to, i've decided to just forgo the cream. maybe Christina will drive me to another pharmacy this afternoon.

since i can't do my morning survey or beach patrol duties i get to go to more hotel or boat turtle slide show presentations. last nights was so awful. it was a huge resort for fat, rich people and they sqweezed us inbetween some of the worst entertainment i've ever seen. there was a mock model show and kids music and dancing. all at really high volumes. we didn't make all that much money either. no one there was interested in what we had to say.

last night some of the girls from camp got invited to be bartenders at one of the local bars. everyone from camp went and we all got free sambuca shots forced on us all night. i'm already tired of the party atmosphere at camp. it's very incestuous and people have starting hooking up left right and centre. i seem to have my tent in a really bad location. i'm right in the centre of 3 different new couples. luckily i'm pretty tired at the end of the day and can sleep through most anything but ewwwww! is all i have to say. not sure if i'll be hanging on for the full 6 weeks if things are as crazy as they are now. Liz (one of the girls serving drinks last night) didn't get up for her morning survey shift after two supervisors tried to wake her. she got an official warning. if someone has 3 warnings then they are kicked out of the camp. i wouldn't want anyone to be kicked out. especially her, she Ms. Gossip and is fun to talk to.

not much else is new here. so far i've had way too much spare time. i've already finished two books and am on my third. there is a good 2nd hand book store here and i will have to check it out soon. one just has to say that they work at Archelon and there are discounts at all the stores. i'll only cost me 2 euros for a book if i return it. much like a library. i'll be pretty brown when i get back. i've had lots of time at the pool to read and work on my tan. it's coming along nicely. ha ha suckas!
