2 weeks!

well i've been here for 2 weeks. i think i could get use to this easy life style. my tasks for today were to do beach patrol in the afternoon from 1:30pm until 5pm. it was pretty boring all by myself but the beach is small and i can sit near the entrance and inform everyone that enters not to walk at the back of the beach. if the greek gov't would just make a freakin sign or pictogram, i wouldn't have to be there. at 7:30pm myself and 2 other girls went to a hotel and gave a slide show about the loggerhead turtles and the dangers they face. we made 60 euros which is better than the sad 11.40 euros we made at the slide show last night.
yesterday morning was an adventure. i was on morning survey for the island of Marathonisis. on our way back our boat stalled and then we couldn't get it to get back into neutral to start the engine again. i figured it just needed a woman's touch but i couldn't fix it. ;P
we eventually just started up in forward and zoomed off at our 6 knot speed (very slow) don't want to hit any turtles! then when we were ready to be picked up we got the cell phone out and it's battery was dead. we were stranded about an hours walk from the campsite with a case of 30 litres of fuel. i volunteered to wait with our stuff since my foot is still sore and Julia from Germany stayed with me. Mark the leader and Jimena walked/ran back to the campsite to get a car to pick us up. we sat there for an hour. tons'o'fun i tell ya. especially when one is salty wet and looking forward to breakfast and a shower.
a bunch of us girls are going to get rooms in a hotel for a night and have a girls night out. we're all looking forward to a hot shower. did i mention we have cold showers? i can only bear taking showers in the afternoon. mornings and evenings are way too cold.
this morning one morning survey group found 2 sets of turtle tracks but no nests. any day now there will be nests and we will begin night surveys too. hopefully i'm going to be on the night surveys. they will for sure be the coolest tasks. watching and tagging nesting turtles.
